Harmful trends like obesity and addiction to tobacco is developing at an alarming rate and employers are left with no choice but to increase health insurance cost to those throwing caution to wind and puff away happily or grow their body to super sizes. Employers especially the large ones don’t want their employees to take health advantages offered for granted and not notice the steady escalation in insurance costs. Employers are encouraging the employees to attend smoking cessation coursees and weight reduction programes, but in reality are employees taking it seriously ? Who do we blame for this appalling condition ? Do we blame the generous fast food chains who offer too much for too little or do we blame the craving to eat more. obesity which is a condition wherever the weight is 30 percent more compared to what is excellent for a particular height is rising at unprecedented rates with each 1 United states out of 5 being obese.Employees who are obese and addicts of tobacco and tobacco related products should volunteer to participate in the wellness programes prepared by the employers and seriously cut down weight and quit smoking. It is no doubt an intrusion into the personal lives of employees but employers see no way out to cut down on health top qualitys which are on a constant rise. There is also some ingredient of helplessness in certain cases where an employee struggling from asthma cannot participate in workout programes and employers can help by arranging a doctor’s note to that effect. The poor job market has added to the woes of the employees. They are left with little choice but to accept to contribute to the premiums payments.Wall-mart has already declared that it would charge larger top qualitys for tobacco users and at the same time prepare for free smoking cessation courses and so are many other employers who have decided to come down heavily on people who smoke and obese employees causing health care quality to rise but at the same time have promised to start offering discounts to those who show improvements by quiting smoking and losing weight.

But things cannot happen overnight and may take years to see results. Like in the case of Cleveland center which employs more than 40,000 employees. It started off by banning smoking in the campus and ceased employing people who smoke and also supplied memberships to its gyms and wellness hospital free of cost which regularly helped employees have a superior health and as a result cleveland hospital has seen only a 2 % rise in its high quality costs. It is important to have wellness programs in place but the employers should also ensure that such programs are affordable to all type of employees. This surely looks liking a taxing time for employees. They are sure to be burdened with greater insurance costs and penalties between this Xmas and the next and many more to come if obesity and smoking developments continue at this alarming rate.Well, who do we blame ? The employers, the employees or the insurance companies ?
